Healthy Hot Chocolate

There really is nothing as comforting as hot chocolate. Whatever the heartache, whatever the ailment, there really is no substitute for a warm cup of hot chocolate. But beware the ones in cafes and stores – choc-full (pun intended) of sugar and loaded with cream and unnecessary calories.

This healthy alternative not only is low cal but it provides you with a protein punch of 27.4 grams of protein at just 2.5g of sugar, which is not the refined, processed kind.

Guaranteed to soothe your soul!

** note : This is quite filling because of the protein and can be used as a meal replacement.

Ingredients 1 scoop of choice chocolate protein powder (I use Smart Fitness Athlete protein powder because it’s all natural, low-cal and low in whey content) 500ml almond milk 1 tsp cinnamon powder zest of ½ orange plus extra to grate as topping cacao nibs for topping (optional)   Directions 1. In a saucepan, mix and stir the protein powder, almond milk, cinnamon and the zest of ½ an orange. The heat will help all flavors infuse. Heat to suit yourself – I like mine searing scalding burning hot ! 2. Pour into a mug and top with some grated orange zest and cacao nibs. Enjoy your cup o’ comfort.
