HEALTHY G&T

by Dr. Daamini Shrivastav

Sometimes retreating yourself means a cheeky G&T! A lot of people still think that Tonic is a healthy option instead of other soft drinks. Wrong! Tonic is full of sugar, as is just as bad as Coca-Cola.

When I treat myself to a cool, refreshing drink, I want to make sure it isn’t loaded with sugar too so I came up with my somewhat healthy version of a Gin & Tonic. Gin is a great option if you feel like drinking but don’t want to load up on empty calories and sugar; with 0grams of sugar and only 72cals per shot, which is relatively low for alcohol.

You will need for 1 drink:

  • Good quality gin, go with Hendricks or Bombay Sapphire if you prefer a sweeter flavor
  • Lime flavored (or regular) Perrier, or any good quality sparkling water
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 2 limes: juice of one lime, the other cut into wedges for garnish
  • Half a cucumber, cut thin slices for garnish
  • Small handful raspberries
  • 1 handful of ice
    How to make it:
  • Throw ice into your glass
  • Pour 35ml gin over ice
  • Add lemon and lime juice
  • Pour 330ml (approx.) Perrier water
  • Gently stir the remaining fruits into the drink
  • Add a lime wedge to the side of the glass
  • Enjoy…
